Pennsylvania Archaeological Council Resources for Teachers:

Each year, in October, Pennsylvania celebrates its hidden heritage during Archaeology Month.  Archaeological sites are found throughout the Commonwealth.  Some of these are prehistoric camps of villages, others are left from the colonial period, and still others are remnants of our recent industrial heritage.  Archaeological sites are found in every Pennsylvania County and Township, along rivers and streams, in rock shelters, and on hilltops.  This brochure has been developed by the archaeologists in the state to provide the Commonwealth’s teachers with access to the archaeology in your communities.  It contains two lists.  One is a list of archaeologists throughout the state who are available to visit your classroom and present a program about archaeology. To arrange for a speaker, contact the individual speaker directly.  To arrange for one of the exhibits, contact Dr. Beverly Mitchum Chiarulli, Indiana University of Pennsylvania 441 North Walk, G-12 McElhaney Hall, Indiana PA 15705.  Phone number: (724) 357-7623 or (724) 357-2659, email: bevc@iup.edu
