We call archaeological sites 'Pennsylvania’s Hidden Memories', because sites represent a part of our heritage that most people never see. You could stand on a site and never realize that you were in a place where people may have lived a thousand years ago. As part of the 1999 Pennsylvania Archaeology Month Activities, the Pennsylvania Archaeological Council has created a website called Discovering Pennsylvania’s Hidden Memories which links each county to an archaeological site in that county to explore the diverse resources in the Commonwealth. All month, new memories will be linked to this first page. Twenty counties are now linked: Allegheny, Beaver, Bucks, Butler, Centre, Clinton, Columbia, Erie, Lancaster, Lawrence, Montgomery, Northampton, Perry, Philadelphia, Susquehanna, Tioga, Union, Washington, Westmoreland and Wyoming. If you have questions about archaeological investigations in your county, email Dr. Beverly Chiarulli.
Check every day for a new memory.
